Heidi Lane Berio, Psy.D.

Heidi Lane Berio, Psy.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in working with toddlers, children, adolescents and their families.

Heidi Berio, Psy.D engages in individual and family therapy, along with school consultations, bringing valuable experience in addressing challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, academic hurdles, mood issues, oppositional behavior, and problematic family dynamics.

She employs evidence-based methods like cognitive-behavioral therapy and family systems therapy to cultivate effective coping skills and enhance interpersonal and familial functioning. Dr. Berio focuses on empowering parents to adeptly handle their child’s emotional and behavioral challenges while fostering familial cohesion.

Dr. Berio also conducts diagnostic interviews and performs comprehensive developmental, psychological, and psychoeducational evaluations to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. Her goal is to guide treatment planning and formulate educational recommendations.

In her specialized field, Dr. Berio conducts thorough diagnostic evaluations to identify Autism Spectrum Disorders, emphasizing treatment through social skills training and behavioral interventions. Additionally, she possesses specialized training in the psychological treatment of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, HIV, and cancer. Dr. Berio assists children and families in navigating common adjustment-related difficulties, including adherence to treatment regimens, pain management, sleep issues, family conflicts, denial, behavioral challenges, anxiety, and depression. Her treatment approach underscores interdisciplinary consultation, collaborating with various providers such as pediatricians, teachers, schools, speech pathologists, and physical therapists, to deliver comprehensive services tailored to the child’s life.

A recipient of a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Dr. Berio completed her predoctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Following that, she undertook a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) fellowship with an Autism Specialization at Children’s National Medical Center. Dr. Berio furthered her expertise through postdoctoral training at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. In this role, she conducted evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorders, delivered individual and family therapy, and contributed to a multidisciplinary diabetes team, enhancing child/adolescent treatment adherence and promoting coping and adjustment to chronic illness.
