Danielle Dougherty, Ph.D earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown University and a doctoral degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Dr. Dougherty is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia. Her professional journey has been dedicated to addressing the evolving mental health needs of children and adolescents.
Dr. Dougherty is a seasoned professional in the field of psychology. She approaches her work with a primary orientation in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She incorporates other modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, mindfulness, and solution-focused practices. Her therapeutic focus centers on addressing anxiety and depression in children and adolescents, along with expertise in managing emotion regulation and social skills deficits.
In addition to therapy, Dr. Dougherty also specializes in psychological and psychoeducational evaluations. She employs multi-method, multi-informant testing procedures that incorporate measures of social-emotional, cognitive, academic, and behavioral functioning to help families better understand their children’s strengths and challenges. She has experience assessing for learning disabilities (including dyslexia), intellectual disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and various mental health conditions impacting children and adolescents’ well-being.
Before joining CFA, Dr. Dougherty worked extensively in the school setting, primarily in elementary and middle schools. She has experience consulting and collaborating with teachers and parents to address learning challenges and behavioral problems. She is adept at helping families understand and navigate 504 and special education processes.
