Working with kids and teens struggling with emotional dysregulation and behavioral difficulties is Dr. Khayat’s primary area of clinical interest. She approaches her sessions with compassion, common sense, and humor. She advocates for thoughtful parent involvement in therapy, and meets with caregivers or other care providers to coordinate care and encourage open communication or suggest helpful tools outside of the therapy room. She works with families to create an individualized treatment plan for every patient and enjoys considering each person’s unique needs in suggesting therapy goals. She strives to create a safe space for her patients to discuss whatever makes them “them,” including issues of racial, cultural, and personal identities.
Dr. Khayat earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She completed her predoctoral training at the Institute for Child & Family Health Inc. in Miami, Florida. She received specialized training in cognitive behavioral, integrative, and play therapies concentrating on child and adolescent psychology. Dr. Khayat has also received training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a parent-focused intervention that helps families better understand child anxiety and behavioral disorders.
When outside of the office, Dr. Khayat enjoys reading about psychology, talking about psychology, and learning new languages.
